According to MindMasters, the human mind is the most powerful instrument that we know of in the universe. In fact, quantum mechanics indicate that the whole universe is within the mind. Here are 10 things about the human mind that you were probably not aware of.
Our brain and the human mind power
One of the most common misconceptions is that we only use 10% of our brain. However, scientific studies have proven that various areas of our brain are active and being used at various times, depending on the activity we are doing. In some cases, activity in the various areas of the brain overlaps. Some studies have revealed that perhaps we’re using up to 30% of our brain at once.
Our reality represents our thoughts
Chances are that you’ve been told that the things people wear, the way the dress or act, and even the way they decorate their home/office are representative of what is going on in their mind. For example, a schizotypal personality might wear clothes that have unusual/bizarre patterns and they may even wear colors that don’t really go together all that well. In addition, the way an individual keeps their home (or room, if really young) represents the organization of their mind.
We use our brain to interact with the environment
When you see, hear, smell, taste, or touch something, you may think you are doing so with your eyes, ears, nose, mouth, or hands. However, this is not entirely true. The parts of our body are simply the physical extensions of our body that absorb the information and send it to our brain to decode. Our mental map of our environment, including visual, olfactory, auditory, gustatory, and kinesthetic is built in our brain.
Our brain contains 100 billion neurons and 100,000 miles of blood vessels
This sounds like a lot, but if you were to pull out all of the blood vessels from a human brain and straighten them out into one long blood vessel, it would be 100,000 miles long. In addition, our brain also contains 100 billion neurons which- depending on our experience, fire away at various intervals.
Our subconscious cannot tell what is real vs. what is fantasy
Believe it or not, our subconscious does not have the ability to determine what is real and what is fantasy. One example of this is dreams. In most cases, it seems that our dreams are random- and many times, they just don’t make sense. However, our subconscious mind knows exactly what they mean. This is why we can understand the meaning of our dreams when we are hypnotized.
Our subconscious mind holds a lot more power than our conscious mind
Though we do talk about them separately, the conscious and the subconscious mind are not really separate. They are just 2 parts of the same system. However, the processing power lies in the subconscious. According to the experts, our subconscious mind is about 1 million times more powerful than our conscious. This is why you should never underestimate taping into that power.
Our brain can perform 10 quadrillion operations each second
The most powerful quantum processor in the entire universe is the human brain. Our brain is capable of performing many complex processes all at the same time, especially when we are sleeping. Though we sometimes feel as if we’re “switched off” or we’re just not exactly “with it”- our brains never stop processing. The neurons are always firing away- no matter what time of day or night.
Our brainwaves travel at the speed of light
Though most people don’t realize it, our brain waves really do travel. According to the experts at MIT, our brain waves are traveling at the speed of light. Some experts have proposed that our brain waves may actually travel faster than that. With this being the case, perhaps the experts need to work on learning to travel at the speed of thought instead of the speed of light.
Our mind can be programmed
Chances are, you’ve often heard the mind being compared to a supercomputer. Along these lines, the brain can be programmed- just like a computer- using linguistics. We can use words to program and control our mind. Some examples of the way this can be done effectively are hypnosis, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP.
Our brain receives, amplifies, and transmits information
As we have explained above, all of the information that is processed by our brain is assimilated by our 5 senses: taste, sound, sight, smell, and touch. Our brain receives this information, decodes it and amplifies it to tell us what we should be experiencing based on the stimuli from our environment. This basically tells us that the mental map of our world is not the territory, but just an internal representation of our external world.
So, as you can see, human mind power is mind boggling. There is so much that our minds are capable of. You might be surprised at how powerful your mind is, if you took the time to harness that power. Check out MindMasters for some tips on how to do this.
